Biocalth is a food supplement containing calcium L-threonate, which is a unique ingredient proven to increase the absorption rate of calcium and to help deliver calcium more efficiently to the bones.
Calcium L-threonate is the main ingredient of the product and is formed by combining L-threonate(a resulting ingredient formed during the breakdown of vitamin C) and calcium.
The European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Scientific Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient Sources added to food (ANS) reviewed studies and published an opinion in 2008 on calcium L-threonate for use as a source of calcium in food supplements, in terms of its safety and bioavailablity. The opinion states:
”Human and animal studies indicate that calcium from calcium L-threonate is absorbed (within the body). In animal studies, the bioavailablity of calcium from this source was comparable to or higher than from other sources of calcium. Threonate is a normal constituent of the body, typically arising from the catabolism of ascorbic acid.” The EFSA Journal (2008) 866, 1-20
”The panel concludes that calcium is bioavailable from calcium L-threonate….” The EFSA Journal (2008) 866, 2-20
